| "Think it, then measure it." What can instruments measure? 'Anything you like' is an easy but superficial answer. What about measuring ancient energies, ley lines, human intention, and so on? For some, dowsing is the answer, but as we all know, this is not generally regarded as 'scientific'. | ||
The Dragon ProjectI have been using and designing electronic instruments for measuring small signals for much of my working life, so a chance to join Paul Devereux's Dragon Project team working mainly at the Rollright Stones in the early 1980's (1) was eagerly accepted.
For my part, the aim was to monitor the local environment with as great a variety of instruments as could be mustered. What wasn't available, I built what ever I could at modest cost. Radioactivity, ultrasonic, electrostatic, electromagnetic, magnetic and ELF (2) measuring instruments came into being, and my first contact with 'subtle energies' research began. What did I find at Rollright? (3) The first great discovery was that the length of road passing beside the stones was radioactive to the extent of up to eight times the normal background rate, no doubt due to a foundation of active granite chippings. This stretch of road was where visions or 'hallucinations' had been reported from time to time - could there be a connection with increased radioactivity. I always felt there was more danger from the radiation when standing in the road than from being run over by the traffic! There were variations in the radioactivity around the stones, but not in any particular pattern I felt important. I could never find the pulsing ultrasonic signals previously reported to occur at sunrise, but there were two special occasions. Just once a strong twittering response was obtained at one point on one stone, then on another occasion a general weak signal was found over the area. On the ELF side a very unexpected signal was picked up on a number of occasions, in quite localised areas. It would appear from nothing, sounding rather like waves washing on the shore, become stronger, then die away after about half-an-hour. If one walked slowly along, there would be peaks and troughs of signal amplitude at about one foot intervals. Taking this effect as indicative of a standing wave, then the frequency would be way up in the megahertz, which I am sure my equipment would not be capable of receiving. In some places the signal would be present over a small a distance as six feet (sorry, pre metric days). Electrostatic and electromagnetic (using a large coil which could be dropped over a stone) did not give rise to significant effects, neither did comparing two crystal oscillators at different positions. My equipment would have indicated frequency differences of the two oscillators of one part in two million. So this work finished with one or two curious unexplained happenings, enough to make the effort worth while, and to persuade me to remain interested in this type of work. |

CropcirclesThen came crop circles. Once again the instruments came out, and once again anomalous measurements were made from time to time, principally, in my experience, with regard to electrostatic atmospheric voltage differences over short distances. However, crop circles do not appear to order (at least, not to my order), so once again I was left with a further accumulation of peculiarities. Around this time (1993) I started monitoring the environment around a meditational group run by Andy Collins. (4) Here came a real shock - the geiger counter recording radioactivity showed an increase in readings coinciding with the commencement of a meditation session. Of course, readings are changing all the time from natural variations, but why should the increase coincide with the start of meditation time after time? Even recordings taken in a room in a pub showed an increase at the time of a meditation. Statistically, there was an effect there. The next surprise was to find references to this effect in literature. Maby (5) reported the effect of human emotion of the geiger counter way back in 1950, then Professor Chauvin of Strasbourg University was shaken to find this effect in 1967, and then more recently William Tiller (6) , performing experiments on a gas discharge device (not too remote from a geiger counter) found effects relating to focussed human intention, in 1990. |

HealersI then had the opportunity to monitor a healer at work. This time the geiger count rate went down when the healer started his healing therapy. I have been working on this aspect now for over two years, and can report that a healer can reduce the local count rate by up to 6%. Recently I have made contact with an American group doing similar work, but with the benefit of the most sophisticated apparatus, and they report results very similar to my own.

He used to run a design company full time, still designs electronics equipment and is currently working on improvements to an ELF detection and measurement system.
